Exploring Aspen, CO with Eddie Bauer

Justin Kauffman November 13, 2019

Once or twice a year Eddie Bauer brings their photographers, guides, ambassadors, creatives, influencers, and agency partners together for a kick off their newest campaign.  They call these events “Summits” and this year it was held in Aspen Colorado.

I’ve been lucky to attend one other Summit before this one (the one in Banff, Canada) and the best thing about these events is that it always feels like a family reunion when everyone gets together.  Seriously, everyone is so enthusiast, happy to be outside, and kind, that it makes our time together incredibly family-like.

Aspen ended up being the perfect place for this event because it allowed us to test the new winter gear (since it was snowy and cold in higher elevations) while also allowing us to explore a new city and have a convenient airport to fly into/out of.  As you can imagine, we spent the majority of our time outside, hiking, and testing all the gear.

Day 1:

Our first full day in Aspen consisted of waking up, enjoying breakfast, and choosing an activity to participate in.  We had the choice between three activities (an easy, moderate, and hard activity) and I chose the harder one.  We loaded up the vans and set out to hike to Cathedral Lake.

The Cathedral Lake hike was incredibly beautiful and I’m so happy I chose it.  Almost everyone felt the effect of elevation in our breathing at one point or another, but thankfully no one got sick.  We spent 7 hours hiking (3 up, 3 down, and an hour at the top) and enjoyed our time at the lake where we ate lunch, took photos, and enjoyed the clean, crisp air.

After the hike we all cleaned up and went to dinner.

Day 2:

There were a select few of us that woke up early for sunrise.  We woke up at 4:30 am and drove to Maroon Bells, one of the most famous photo locations in the area.  Although cold, sunrise was beautiful.  We tried to enjoy as much of it as we could and raced back to the hotel to enjoy breakfast and warm our souls.

The activity choices for day 2 included a scenic walk around town, or another hike.  Almost everyone chose the hike and I think we were all very happy we did.  The views at the top were incredible.  Like the day before, we all saved our lunch until we got to the top, then enjoyed everyone’s company and our sense of accomplishment.

Shortly after finishing lunch, we hiked back down, got cleaned up again, and went to dinner.

Our time in Aspen was short but sweet. It’s always heartwarming to see everyone, catch up, and hear about their most recent adventures.  It’s funny how relatively close we all live to each other but don’t ever really get to see each other very often.
