Above Salt Lake City, Utah, the Wasatch Mountains offer some of the most accessible and breathtaking ski touring terrain in the country. On this particularly cold morning, while working on a commercial film project, Justin and his crew woke up at 3 a.m. and drove into the mountains, eager to capture early-season lines.

The trees were frosted over, sparkling in the pre-dawn light, and the crisp air added a sharp clarity to the landscape. The goal was to photograph Ian and Neil Provo, two professional ski athletes, riding their lines. As Justin and Travis waited for the athletes to get into position, they discovered the perfect composition: the rising moon above the ridge, with frosty trees naturally framing the scene. “It was one of those moments where everything aligned. The light, the moon, the lines: it made the early wake-up and frozen fingers more than worth it.”
