High above Cape Town, between Table Mountain and Signal Hill, lies Wally’s Cave. Now closed due to erosion and safety concerns, it was once a hidden gem for adventurers and thrill-seekers.

Justin and his brother, Travis (pictured), had just finished a three-week, 3,632 mile road trip across South Africa. Exhausted and soaked from a relentless rain, they sat at the trailhead and debated whether to hike Lion’s Head that morning. “We forced ourselves out of bed and started hiking in the dark. It was pouring rain and everything was blanketed in a super thick fog. We wanted to turn around, but had this gut feeling that we should keep going.”

Emerging through the clouds, the cave revealed a breathtaking inversion blanketing the valley. Table Mountain peeked out as morning light streamed in from the side, and Justin framed Travis as a tiny figure in the vast landscape. “It was one of those moments where all the effort and exhaustion of the days prior completely vanished,” Justin recalls. “It was incredibly rewarding and one of my favorite experiences to look back on.”
